For students interested in Imagining Your Future

Our pilot program at Herndon High School is for students in grades 10-12 who benefit from additional guidance, access and support.

Selected Students will…

  • Work throughout the school year with a trained mentor , who will listen and guide them in personal and professional development

  • The mentor will listen and guide them in personal and professional development

  • Receive guidance in assessing and planning for postsecondary options (work, trades, military, college)

  • Explore options for their future by engaging in a variety of “at work” experiences, including informational interviews, shadow days, networking opportunities, employer panels, and internships

  • Interact in engaging and fun activities with their peers!

How can a Herndon High School student join Imagining Your Future?

Most of the students starting in August 2024 have been selected. However, additional students may be invited to join during the year.

Would you like to be one of those students? Interested students should discuss the program with a teacher, counselor or coach and ask them to recommend the student for the program. If the student is then invited following the recommendation, the student will be asked to

  • complete a detailed application

  • Write a short essay on why participation would benefit the student

  • Complete a survey assessing the student’s information and confidence levels about their post-HS education, training and career plans

  • Be interviewed in person.
